PhD student Scholarships Tuition in Electrical Engineering

Scholarships Tuition Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science University of British. This is consistent has been awarded the highest research rating (5 *) in Research and Assessment Exercise rated as "Very Good" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
We have a Scholarships Tuition the study began in October 2011 to work on a project entitled "Robust Optimization of Nonlinear Processes under Uncertainty." Robust optimization study procedures for decision-making under uncertainty from time to time. While the deterministic optimization problem includes only known parameters, real-life decision problems almost always involve uncertain parameters. The Scholarships Tuition uncertainty may arise due to future events or not observed, measurement error, or lack of reliable data. Robust optimization has manifold applications in financial engineering, production planning, supply chain management, fleet management, melt control, resource allocation in the network, ground water pollution control, project scheduling, disaster risk management, telecommunications, power system operation, electricity generation capacity assessment , public infrastructure investment planning, agriculture, computer chip design and more. In a large number of application areas, robust optimization has proven superior to most of the modeling paradigm. Many industries have recognized the value of quantitative methods for decision making under uncertainty, and large industrial companies and financial institutions constantly looking for experts in this field.
Scholarships Tuition Strong Dynamic optimization problems are very hard; models should be formulated with a clever way to facilitate the efficient solution, and approximation algorithms and dedicated solutions should be designed. In this project we will develop a robust optimization method for the local and global issues important decisions involving the nonlinear dynamic processes under uncertainty. Two high-impact applications will also be investigated in cooperation with our industry partners, and methods developed will be applied to optimization, integrated design and process control systems. Researcher appointed are expected to conduct high quality research towards this goal. This project built on work currently in the research group of Dr. D. Kuhn, Prof. B. Rustem and Prof. E. Pistikopoulos.
All applicants must have at least a Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related science degree, ideally with an emphasis on theoretical and applied optimization, operationsresearch, industrial engineering or finance or control. Applicants must demonstrate that they possess the following attributes:
A high affinity for math reasoning, analytical skills and strong numerical and quickly grasp new concepts.
Extensive knowledge of optimization and probability theory or the desire to acquire such knowledge prior to or immediately after the commencement of the work.
The ability to write clearly and concisely to a level consistent with publication in the journal of the highest international level.
You will be part of the Computational Optimisation Group within the Department. For further information on the group’s research activities visit www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~dkuhn or www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~br.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and the successful candidate will be expected to make an (expedited) online application for PhD study according to normal College admission procedures.
Applications must include the following:
- A 2- 3 page research statement that describes what you see as interesting research issues relating to this studentship and what relevant experience you have.
- A detailed CV
- Transcripts of all degree results
- 2 recent letters of references
Please email your application to Dr. Daniel Kuhn dkuhn@imperial.ac.uk or Prof. Berc Rustem b.rustem@imperial.ac.uk with the subject title ‘PhD studentship application.’ Informal enquiries are also welcome before formal application.
Applicants are advised to visit www3.imperial.ac.uk/computing/research/degrees for general information on becoming a PhD student in the Department of Computing.
